Kwalee is a developer and publisher of mobile games based in Leamington Spa, England.
Our mission is simple: make amazingly fun, innovative and renowned games.
Kwalee is an expanding, independent, mobile game developer based right in the heart of Leamington Spa. The town’s spa baths, library and park sits just outside our office windows. Situated on the second floor of a grade II listed building we can cater for all tastes; below us is a beautiful tea-shop (excellent cakes) and a pizza restaurant. The office is bright and open plan, with enough space for a gaming chill-out zone.
Kwalee is different. We don’t have publisher-bound deadlines. Instead, we define our own ambitious targets, and we regularly and critically review our games. Every developer here plays console, computer and mobile games and each is free to feed ideas into any part of all the games. We aim to succeed but we know that hurdles lie on the path and we overcome them without looking back. At the moment, we are a tightly woven triptych of development teams.
The teams at Kwalee seek to excite and entertain players with innovative new games that provide incredible social experiences. Our ethos is based around a set of core values that put the gamer first and which harness the creative skills of our people to the maximum. The game industry’s evolution from physical to digital distribution is one of the many inspirations for the company.
Our ambitions are well above the high-bar, and to achieve this we don’t scrimp on equipment or focus on the 9 to 5. If you need software or hardware to get the job done efficiently, you can get it. Our flexible approach to working hours means our people can do the school run, or avoid the school traffic.
Kwalee was founded in 2011 by David Darling, who has been writing successful commercial video games since he was 11 years old. He co-founded Codemasters in 1986, which became a highly respected, world class game developer and publisher with massive global successes. For services to the video game industry David was awarded a CBE by the Queen.
Kwalee employs around 20 people, including Jason Falcus, Andrew Graham (of Micro Machines fame), and James Horn, accompanied by David Darling’s father, Jim, serving as Chairman, a role he held for many years at Codemasters.
